I hope you are all enjoying your summer. It seems such a long time ago that we all got together
Some of the CLOKS helpers all had a socially distanced meeting to discuss the short term future and came to the conclusion that just at the moment things still don’t look great for amateur theatre groups.
I was hoping we could apply the school rules re social distancing but sadly we can’t do that. So as it stands, groups of 30 or more are still not allowed to meet, the 2m/1m rule still applies, mask wearing in indoor settings, and no singing permitted. All these things make our start in September look a little unlikely.
I have chosen a great Christmas show/concert that is split into small sketches that we can string together at the last minute and I am still hoping we can rehearse and perform this in some capacity. But it really is a waiting game.
We just have to wait and see, be patient and monitor the situation on an almost weekly basis. It looks like this virus is not going anywhere so we are all having to adapt our lives accordingly.
There is talk of a second wave in the winter but who knows? All I know is that making plans of any kind is pretty much impossible at the moment.
One this IS certain… and that is that I miss CLOKS and I miss you all. I miss all the singing and fun we have, but I am optimistic that we will all be able to get together again at some point.
Meanwhile it would be very useful to me if you could let me know your thoughts about returning. I completely appreciate some of you may have safety concerns, you may have decided that your time at CLOKS has come to an end or maybe you can’t wait to start again as soon as we are able. I respect everyone’s personal opinions but it would be useful to know what sort of cast numbers we would have as and when we start. You can private message me, email me or text me… or reply to this post.
Take care, enjoy the sunshine, listen to music and dream of a time when we can be dancing around the stage again have a ball!
CLOKS is a youth theatre group providing an affordable way for young people aged 8-18 to sing, act, dance and become involved in all aspects of theatre. It is run by a group of volunteers who work together to make a safe and fun environment for the children.
We run workshops, take part in various fundraising concerts and put on one major production a year in June with a smaller fundraising Christmas show in December. We actively encourage team building and group work but the main aim is for the children to have fun! Rehearsals and performances for the June show are in Chard, making it easier for the majority of the children and their parents. CLOKS helps the children gain confidence and build self-esteem whilst providing entertainment for the community.
Watch the video below to watch a montage of photos from their show ‘A Kiss Card From Walter’ (2016) a show written especially for CLOKS about the role Chard played in WW1, featuring audio soundtracks of two of the songs from the show.
